The Department of Nursing Sciences is proud to announce that two of its final-year BSc Nursing students, Joshua Kipsambu and Mercy Mukungu, have been awarded the prestigious Conexus Community Scholarship. The Scholarship Certificate Awarding Ceremony took place on 6th October 2026 at the College of Nursing.
The scholarship provides support toward the recipients' final-year tuition fees, with funds released directly to the university. The recipients will also receive mentorship from Conexus's network of experienced registered nurses, guidance that will help them as they prepare to enter the profession. The selection committee recognized the students' academic achievement, dedication and passion for healthcare.
Conexus Chief Executive Officer Mr. Andrew Moreton and Executive Vice President for International Operations Mr. Vasco Lopes da Silva personally presented the scholarships and award certificates. They were joined by other representatives of the Conexus community. The Department was represented by its Chairperson, Prof. Emmah Matheka, and Dr. Grace Ngaruiya, who attended to celebrate the recipients and support the occasion.
After the presentation, the guests held a wide-ranging conversation with the students about life at the University of Nairobi and some of the challenges students face. The Conexus leaders also spoke about the global exposure available to nurses today, including the opportunity to practice as a nurse in the United States of America. The discussion gave the students a broader view of where their training can take them.
Both recipients expressed their gratitude to Conexus for the investment in their education. Joshua, who serves as Chairperson of the Nursing University Students Association (NUNSA), has a career interest in maternal and child health and hopes to use his training to serve mothers and newborns.
The Department and the Faculty of Health Sciences congratulate Joshua and Mercy on this achievement and thanks Conexus for its support of nursing education at the University of Nairobi.
