The exchange program between the University of Nairobi, Department of Nursing Sciences and
Columbia University was a highly anticipated and successful initiative that aimed to foster cross-
cultural learning and collaboration between nursing students from both institutions. The program
spanned six weeks and concluded on May 12th, leaving a lasting impact on all participants.
The medical camp organized at the Diocese of Murang'a Catholic parish on 12th May,2023 was a resounding success, providing essential healthcare services to the local community. The event brought together Nursing students from the University of Nairobi and the University of South Alabama, who volunteered their time and expertise to ensure the smooth running of the camp. Led by Dr. Lilian Omondi from the University of Nairobi and Dr.

On September 23, 2022, the Department of Nursing Sciences held an incredibly thorough orientation program for the newly admitted 2022/23 First Years.
This year’s pinning and candle lighting ceremony for BSc Nursing finalists was a colorful and cheerful as the students set out to serving as qualified nurses.
This ceremony was termed as a rite of passage for nursing students who have been successfully prepared and ready to serve humanity.
Proffessor Anna Karani was a great mentor and a friend to many . Prof Karani was a distinguished scholar who gave her best to mankind. A Professor of Nursing & Nursing Education at the University of Nairobi since 2008. Prof. Karani received several awards for promoting community work and nursing education.
In its quest for enriching serious gaming as a learning tool, the DNS receives its first board game designed by South African German Development Cooperation in partnership with safer spaces. Indawo, a Learning Tool for Co-Designing Safer Communities was developed as a way for anyone to learn about planning an area-based approach to violence prevention in South Africa.
The Department of Nursing Sciences in partnership with the University Health Services (UHS),
conducted a free Community Health Camp Targeting University of Nairobi staff and students on 19th May, 2022..
The objective was in line with the University’s Community and Social responsibility
The specific services/ activities offered/ carried out include;
1) Screening for diabetes and hypertension
2) Covid 19 vaccination
3) Screening for weight and Obesity
4) Breast and Cervical cancer screening
Emergency care skills are essential in saving lives whenever emergencies occur to individuals, be they clients in hospital or community members; in the office, while on transit, at home, or field among others.
There is a huge gap of emergency skills among health care and emergency evacuation workers that requires deliberate action to narrow the gap in our country.
