REPORT ON NEW NURSING STUDENTS’ DINNER HELD ON 1ST OCTOBER 2021 IN THE DEPARTMENT OF NURSING SCIENCES
The Nursing Students Fellowship, under the Medical School Christian Union and Department of Nursing Sciences held a dinner to welcome all the new students on the 1st of October 2021. It was all an all-inclusive dinner for all new students irrespective of their religious affiliations.
The dinner was well attended by approximately 80 attendees, most of whom were fresh first year nursing students. During the dinner, several former students welcomed the new students into campus. They emphasized that the students should be focused on their studies and avoid all other interruptions that are eagerly waiting for them to destroy their studies and their lives.
The students were given a Word of encouragement by Activate Ministry, a Christian organization working among university students in Kenya to coach them about life and constructive living. The Coach gave scenarios of varied research and case studies that they have done among students in different universities in Kenya. Through their research, they have been able to identify the various pitfalls that many campus students get introduced into in their first year of life that eventually ruin their lives including betting, immorality, drugs and substance abuse. He emphasized to the students on the need to focus on their studies, put their trust in God and avoid negative influences.
Several alumni supported and attended the dinner. They expressed their willingness and commitment to supporting the students to succeed in their studies and professional and future career lives.
The dinner was co-sponsored by the Christian Union Fellowship, Department of Nursing Sciences, and Nurses Alumni/friends through contributions by well-wishers to cater for all the costs of the dinner. The students were very happy, they were encouraged and wished this event could be done annually, to welcome all first years. Thank you all for your great support.
