The Department of Nursing Sciences is in the process of reviewing all its curricular to incorporate the new developments in nursing and health sciences, and to build a quality curricular critical in teaching the nursing workforce and make them relevant to the dynamic needs of the society and for achievement of Kenya Vision 2030, SDG 3, African Union 2063 Agenda and Universal Health Coverage.
The workshop output will be draft reviewed and developed curricular for Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master of Science in Nursing and Doctor of Philosophy Nursing respectively.
The workshop was officially opened by Prof. Evelyn Wagaiyu, Ag. Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences, UoN.
Prof. Wagaiyu noted that the review was timely and necessary. She acknowledged that quality curriculum translates to quality university education. The University Management also expects curriculum review process to be finalized by June, 2022.
The review of the curriculum was supported by the National Cancer Institute of Kenya (NCI-K). Addressing the participants the CEO, NCI-K, gave an insight of the burden of cancer nationally and internationally emphasizing on the critical role nurses play in the cancer care hence the inclusion of cancer content in all nursing curricular. In attendance was Ms. Ruth Muia, Head of Cancer Awareness and Prevention Directorate, NCI-K.
