OBSTETRICS /MIDWIFERY AND GYNAECOLOGICAL NURSING

Midwifery, Obstetric and Gynecological Nursing Thematic Unit provides a course in two units as an integral part of Bachelor of Science in Nursing in Year II and III second as part of the course for both the direct entry students and the RN-BSc.N (upgrading) programmes.

In addition, the Thematic Unit offers training in Master of Science in Nursing (Obstetric Nursing/ Midwifery).  There is a strong focus on linking theory to practice in clinical placement settings in a manner to meet the needs of women and their families in an individualized, culturally sensitive manner.

Students are actively engaged in theoretical and practical instructions guided by well-established Senate approved curriculum that is revised as required to accommodate the latest in knowledge, skills and practice, in tandem with the International Council of Midwifery (ICM) Standards.  Students and members of staff are actively engaged in research, consultancy, community service, partnership, authorship and many other attributes that add to knowledge and the learning process.

The training is of top quality aimed at the world market. To achieve our expectations, the Unit appreciates the availability of facilities such as the skills lab and opportunities offered by the Department of Nursing of the University of Nairobi.
