DNS RECEIVES INDAWO  AS PART OF SERIOUS GAMING AS A LEARNING TOOL

Dr Kivuti-Bitok receives Indawo game from VPUU officer

In its quest for enriching  serious gaming as a learning tool, the DNS receives its first board game designed  by South African German Development Cooperation in partnership with safer spaces. Indawo,   a Learning Tool for Co-Designing Safer Communities was developed as a way for anyone to learn about planning an area-based approach to violence prevention in South Africa. This model is expected to be extended to other scenarios in similar limited resource settings such as Kenya.  The game immerses players in a simulation of a fictional area in order to apply key lessons to a generic situation. This game will enrich the teaching of community health and health systems management course among others within the school. The multisectoral approach in management of health systems and prevention of violence is indeed a skill worth inculcating among our learners.

The Game was gifted to the  Department of Nursing sciences during the concluded Africities Conference held in Kisumu City.  Dr Kivuti-Bitok received the board game  on behalf of the DNS .

The DNS looks forward to reporting on their experience with Indawo serious game in due course.
