MScN graduate from SONS Wins the “Nightingale Warrior Award for Research and Innovation”

This award is given by the National Nurses Association of Kenya-KNH research committee to nurses who have demonstrated professional growth through participation in research activities and innovation. The award is given in recognition of nurses are involved in the conduct of research and other self driven activities to bring new ideas and change in key areas such as research, innovation and leadership that improve patients’ health outcomes.
This year, the award was given to Lilian Okoth, an MScN graduate of the School of Nursing Sciences who despite  the many challenges, such as shortages of nursing staff, limited training opportunities for specialization, decreased job satisfaction among nurses and inadequate funding for nursing research, successfully conducted several studies  and audits that impacted  positively on patients’ health outcomes. Examples of the studies included “Nursing Management of SJS/ TEN: Case of Ward 7 C Kenyatta National Hospital “Response to therapy in acute asthma exacerbation among patients attending KNH” She is currently leading an audit in  administration of therapeutic medicines among nurses in the hospital.
