Prof. Robertson delivers her address during her visit to the School of Nursing Sciences.

Cheryl Robertson is an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing, University of Minnesota. She is the West Congo Basin University Lead on the project “RESPOND Global Program for Outbreaks of Emergent Zoonotic Diseases” under the USAID Emerging Pandemic Threat Program.

The purpose of her visit was to University of Nairobi’s School of Health Sciences was to:

  1. Develop a relationship with the school of nursing which could lead to development of joint programs and other networking issues
  2. Sensitize staff and postgraduate students about one health(OHCEA-One Health Central And Eastern Africa) concept and it's applicability to nursing
  3. Create an entry point for One Health Kenya to start cooperating with the school of nursing on ongoing activities

She gave the background and historical perspectives of OHCEA and emphasized on One Health concept as a

  1. Multidisciplinary, multisectoral approach to addressing complex health problems
  2. N paradigm focused on:
    • Addressing complex and messy problems concerning Human, animal, environmental health interface
    • Holistic approach
    • Movement from discipline-based approach to systems-based approach aiming to fix the system as well as treating the problem
    • Transdisciplinarity and team work
    • Government, academia, private sector, NGOs
