Midwifery is a speciality that needs intense training. Midwifery training in Kenya has been happening in a combination with general nursing and community health. Upon evidence, there is need to introduce a training that will be specific to midwifery alone. In order to strengthen this training, Bachelor of Science in Midwifery training needs to be introduced so as to enable midwives to be more specialized. This degree will be offered to direct entry and upgrading students. The entry criteria will be like for BScN.

Activities done at the workshop

The Bachelor of Science in Midwifery syllabus which had been developed was reviewed. All the courses to be offered in the programme were reviewed. The hours allocated for the theory and practicals were also reviewed. In addition, clinical hours was the respective clinical courses were reviewed.

  • BScM training guidelines
  • The scope of practice
  • The examination guidelines
