SoNS alumnus shares her journey to becoming a nurse on international platform

Susan Kwamboka Makori, BSN, Nurse Intern, Machakos County Referral Hospital, Machakos, Kenya shared her journey to becoming a nurse during the third storytelling webinar featuring nurses and nursing students from across the globe. 

Kwamboka graduated with BScN from  the University of Nairobi in 2020.

SoNS alumnus wins 2021 Norman A. Scotch Award for Excellence in Teaching at Boston School of Public health

The staff and faculty at School of Nursing Sciences join their colleagues at Boston University in congratulating Dr. Monica Onyango for winning the 2021 Norman A. Scotch Award for Excellence in Teaching.

UoN, UTMB and ANN_K successfully hold neonatal nursing seminar

The neonatal nursing seminar is an activity that was planned by the University of Nairobi (UoN), University of Texas Medical Board (UTMB) and the Association of the Neonatal Nurses’ of Kenya (ANN_K). The planning committee included Dr. Miriam Wagoro and Dr. Joyce Jebet from UoN, Prof. Pamela Harris-Haman (UTMB), Mrs Josephine Bariu and Ms Odessa Omanyo (ANN_K) and Mr. Samuel Wainaina (Engineer County Hopsital, Nyahururu).

SoNS receives donation of infrared thermometers in COVID-19 fight

The School of Nursing Sciences (SoNS) in implementing UoN and MOH COVID-19 transmission prevention measures works with stakeholders from various sectors including alumni to ensure safety of staff and students within and beyond the SoNS environment.

SoNS spearheads webinars to support nurses and midwives fighting COVID-19

The nurses and midwives scholars in Kenya together with nurses associations and the Nursing Council of Kenya started weekly virtual meetings and provision of intellectual resources to offer support to nurses and midwives in the frontline of managing covid-19.

These create avenues for nurses and midwives to stay connected and share key insights and other critical information during this tumultuous time.

SoNS student joins KESNNUR for mentorship and blood donation

Nthambi Yvonne Kibungi , a BScN 2 student from the University of Nairobi  was among the Kenya Student and Novice Nurses(KESNNUR) chapter of the National Nurses Association of Kenya(NNAK)  at  the regional series of mentorship drives dubbed ‘The campus convoy'.

SoNS alumnus joins mentorship program in Geneva

Rashid Salim, an alumnus of the School of Nursing has been admitted to a mentorship program at the International Council of Nurses (ICN) in Geneva.

Rashid made his submission to be a member of the ICN Nursing Student Steering Group and was selected as a successful candidate.

He will work together with other members to strengthen the nursing student influence in the work of ICN in global health and nursing policy.

SONS receives hand washing station equipment and hand sanitizers donations from an alumnus

University of Nairobi (UoN) moved its operations (that included teaching and learning) to online mode from mid March 2020 when the President pronounced a lockdown due to COVID-19 that devastated the whole world.

With the recent announcement of resumption of face to face learning by the UoN administration, and in line with the national guidelines, the School of Nursing Sciences (SONS) is working towards ensuring everyone’s safety within the school environment upon reopening.
